The English-language International Doctoral Studies Program (IDPS) of the School of Physical Education, Sports and Dietetic Sciences (SEFAAD) of the University of Thessaly (TH) is granting a Doctoral Diploma (PhD) after studies and a doctoral thesis conducted in English.

Doctoral students can select to do their studies and doctoral thesis under the co-supervision of the University of Thessaly (UTH) and a European university, based on a memorandum of cooperation between the two institutions. Collaborating universities that have signed a cooperation protocol with UTH include the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy, the G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara in Italy and the University of Leipzig in of Germany, in which there is specialization in areas of research and doctoral studies related to the IDPS.

The Doctoral Diploma of this program is an academic title, which certifies that its holder has specialized in original research and production of new knowledge in the wider area of the sciences of physical education, sports, exercise, physical activity, dietetics and nutrition. It is a certification of substantial prestige, innovation, scientific/professional autonomy and constant commitment to the formation of new ideas and processes. The results of the PhD must be applicable and aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens, without omitting elements of essential basic research.
