Since the 94’ academic year, the Library of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science has been operating as an annex of the University of Thessaly Library . The Library was initially housed in a building in Matsopoulos Park and in July 1999 was transferred to the new Department premises in Karyes. The library collection includes books, conference proceedings, theses, information material (e.g. dictionaries, encyclopedias), audiovisual material (e.g. cd-roms, dvds, videocassettes) and magazines. This material covers areas such as psychology, physical education and training, sports, medical sciences, administration and organization, nutrition, literature.
For members of the University community, a prerequisite for registering in the library is the presentation of an academic identity card (pass). For the general reading public, the necessary supporting documents for their registration and the issuance of a “Membership Card” in the library are the presentation of a police ID card and 1 photograph.
The rights of Library users are summarized as follows:
• Borrowing books, theses, CD-ROMs, videotapes, etc. • Renewal of loan period, by telephone, on site or online
• Use of reading room and information sources (encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.) • Access to the Internet and electronic databases. • Access to printed and electronic journals, in Greek and foreign languages. • Ordering, for a fee, articles from libraries in Greece or abroad and books from libraries in the country.
Note: Magazines, encyclopedias, dictionaries, as well as books that bear a distinctive mark (purple dot, non-loanable item label) are not loaned.
